This bill modifies the rules for when a person is considered to have genuinely retired from a job covered by the Iowa Public Employees' Retirement System (IPERS), which is the state's pension plan for public employees. Currently, to be considered retired, an individual must not return to any employment with a covered employer for at least four calendar months after receiving their retirement benefits. This bill creates an exception specifically for individuals who return to work as school district support staff for a covered employer, allowing them to resume such employment after receiving just one month of retirement benefits, provided their first month of eligibility for retirement benefits is in July 2026 or later.
