Bill Summary

AN ACT ENTITLED An Act to allow a business owner who is a veteran to display military specialty plates on a noncommercial vehicle registered to the veteran's business and to limit personal liability to the business owner and veteran.

AI Summary

This bill allows a business owner who is also a veteran to display military specialty plates on a noncommercial vehicle registered to their business, as long as the veteran is also listed as an owner on the vehicle's title and registration. A veteran is defined in South Dakota law as someone who has served in the armed forces. The vehicle must be a noncommercial automobile, pickup truck, or van. There is an additional fee of ten dollars for these specialty plates, on top of regular registration fees, unless the owner is exempt from fees. Furthermore, this bill clarifies that a business owner who is a veteran and meets these requirements will not incur any additional personal liability simply because they own these military specialty plates on a vehicle registered to their business.
