This bill modifies the rules for how insurance companies must notify policyholders when they decide not to renew certain types of insurance policies, specifically commercial property, fire, and casualty insurance, as well as personal lines like homeowners insurance. The key changes include extending the required notice period from 30 days to 60 days before the policy's expiration date, and allowing insurers to send these non-renewal notices electronically if the policyholder has agreed to such communication. If an insurer fails to provide the required 60-day notice, the policy will remain in effect for 60 days after the notice is sent, and the insurer must inform the policyholder of the premium cost for this extended coverage. For personal lines policies, the notice must now also include either an explanation for the non-renewal or a statement that such an explanation will be provided upon request.
