This bill requires Local Education Agencies (LEAs), which are public school districts, to provide enrollment and services to dependent children of service members. Specifically, it mandates that if a student enrolling in a public school has an active Section 504 plan, an individualized family service plan, or an individualized education plan (IEP) for special education services, the LEA must ensure these necessary services are in place upon enrollment. Furthermore, for students in the eleventh or twelfth grade who are dependent children of service members and must relocate due to military orders, the LEA must allow them to remain enrolled in their current high school until graduation or withdrawal, even if they no longer reside within the district. The bill also sets a deadline for providing documentation related to enrollment, which is either 60 days from the first day of school or one year from the service member's reporting for duty in Tennessee, whichever is later.
