This bill requires Local Education Agencies (LEAs), which are public school districts, to ensure that students who are the dependent children of service members receive necessary educational services upon enrollment, particularly if they have existing special education plans like a Section 504 plan or an Individualized Education Program (IEP) under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). It also allows eleventh and twelfth graders who are dependent children of service members to remain in their current high school and graduate even if their family relocates due to military orders, as long as they were enrolled in the LEA when the orders were received. Furthermore, the bill permits these students to enroll in an LEA if their service member parent is relocated on military orders and the student resides within the school district at the time of enrollment, with the understanding that the parent intends to establish residency in the school's zone within one year, and proof of residency will be required within that timeframe.
