This joint resolution establishes the salaries for the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Maryland for the four-year term beginning January 20, 2027, as directed by Article II, Section 21A of the Maryland Constitution. The Governor's Salary Commission, a seven-member body including the State Treasurer and appointees from the Senate President and House Speaker, evaluated compensation based on cost of living, comparisons with other state officials and county executives, and comparability with governors in other states. The resolution adopts the Commission's recommended salaries: $195,000 for the Governor in the first year, increasing to $210,000 by the fourth year, and $175,000 for the Lieutenant Governor in the first year, increasing to $185,000 by the fourth year. The Maryland General Assembly has the power to amend this resolution to decrease salaries, but not below their January 2026 levels, and if no action is taken within 50 days, the Commission's recommended salaries will automatically take effect.
