This joint resolution establishes the salaries for the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Maryland for the four-year term beginning January 20, 2027, as directed by Article II, Section 21A of the Maryland Constitution. The Governor's Salary Commission, a seven-member body including the State Treasurer and members appointed by the Senate President and House Speaker, evaluated compensation based on cost of living, comparisons with other state officials and county executives, and comparability with governors in other states. The resolution adopts the Commission's recommended salaries, which are $195,000 for the Governor in the first year, increasing to $210,000 in the fourth year, and $175,000 for the Lieutenant Governor in the first year, increasing to $185,000 in the fourth year. The General Assembly can decrease these salaries but not increase them, and they cannot be lowered below their January 2026 levels. If the General Assembly does not act within 50 days, the Commission's recommended salaries will automatically take effect.
