This bill amends Tennessee law to lower the standard for when deadly force, meaning force likely to cause death or serious bodily injury, can be used to protect property. Specifically, it allows a person lawfully residing in their home, who is not committing a felony or serious misdemeanor, to use deadly force if they reasonably believe it's immediately necessary to prevent arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, or aggravated cruelty to animals, and if they believe the property cannot be protected by other means, and there's an imminent danger of death, serious bodily injury, or grave sexual abuse to themselves or another person, or that using less than deadly force would expose someone to such risks. The bill also updates references in other sections of the law to include this expanded protection of property.
