This bill amends Tennessee law regarding when employees must be paid their wages. Specifically, it exempts employees who are paid on a "piece-work" (paid per item produced) or "commission" (paid a percentage of sales) basis from the general rule that wages must be paid by the fifth day of the month following the pay period. Instead, for these piece-work or commission employees, their compensation will be due and payable by the last day of the month following the pay period. This change also applies when an employee leaves or is discharged from employment, meaning their final pay will be due by the last day of the succeeding month after they leave, rather than the next regular payday or within 21 days. The bill takes effect on July 1, 2026.
