This bill modifies Tennessee law regarding when employees must be paid their earned wages, specifically for those employed on a "piece-work" basis (paid for each unit of work completed) or a "commission" basis (paid a percentage of sales). Previously, all private employees paid monthly had their wages due by the fifth day of the following month. This bill exempts employees paid on a piece-work or commission basis from this rule, allowing their compensation to be paid by the last day of the succeeding month. This change also applies when such employees leave or are discharged from their jobs, extending the payment deadline to the last day of the month following their departure, whereas other employees must be paid by the next regular payday or within 21 days. The bill takes effect on July 1, 2026.
