Additionally, it mandates that school officials, juvenile court judges, or Department of Children's Services caseworkers inform students identified as "at-risk" and eligible for opportunity public charter schools, along with their parents or guardians, about their eligibility and the locations of nearby schools. Opportunity public charter schools are a type of public school that operates independently of traditional school districts and often serves students who are struggling or at risk of not graduating.
