Bill Summary
This bill proposes to require that a person operating a chatbot in a commercial transaction disclose to a consumer that the consumer is interacting with a chatbot, if a reasonable person could be misled into thinking the chatbot is a human.
AI Summary
This bill requires that if a business uses a chatbot, which is defined as any artificial intelligence or automated system that simulates human conversation through text, audio, images, or video, in a commercial transaction, they must clearly and conspicuously inform the consumer that they are interacting with a chatbot and not a human, especially if the chatbot's behavior could reasonably lead someone to believe it's a person. Violating this rule would be considered an unfair and deceptive business practice, and the law is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
