This bill, starting in the 2026-2027 academic year, will require certain graduate students at the State University of New York (SUNY) and the City University of New York (CUNY) to pay 25% of all mandatory university fees, excluding the graduate student association student activity fee, if they hold specific assistant or associate positions (like teaching assistants or research assistants at SUNY) or certain adjunct roles (like adjunct instructors or lecturers at CUNY). Then, beginning in the 2027-2028 academic year and for all subsequent years, these mandatory university fees will be completely eliminated for these graduate students, with the exception of the graduate student association student activity fee.
