This bill, titled the "Energy Emergency Leadership Act," amends the Department of Energy Organization Act to formally assign specific energy emergency and energy security functions to Assistant Secretaries within the Department of Energy. These functions include responsibilities related to energy infrastructure, security, resilience, emerging threats, cybersecurity, supply, and emergency planning, preparedness, coordination, response, and restoration. Additionally, Assistant Secretaries will be tasked with providing technical assistance and support to state, local, or tribal governments and energy sector entities upon request, in coordination with other federal agencies, to help protect against, detect, and respond to energy security threats, risks, and incidents. The Secretary of Energy is also directed to ensure these new functions are carried out in coordination with other relevant federal agencies.
