Bill Summary

This concurrent resolution would amend the State Constitution to limit the successive number of years that a member of the General Assembly can serve. A member of the General Assembly would not be eligible to serve more than 12 successive years in office, except that a member or official who is serving a term at the end of the 12th successive year would be allowed to complete that term. Service for one year or more to fill an unexpired term of office is included in the limitation imposed by this amendment. Years of service would be considered successive unless there is a break in service consisting of one intervening term of office. This amendment would apply to successive years served by members of the General Assembly after the adoption of the amendment. A member of the General Assembly who is serving on the date of adoption of the amendment will not have the years served as a member before the adoption counted toward the limitation.

AI Summary

This concurrent resolution proposes a constitutional amendment to limit the number of consecutive years a member of the General Assembly can serve to 12. If a member is in the middle of a term when they reach 12 years, they can finish that term. Service in an unexpired term of one year or more counts towards this limit. Years of service are considered consecutive unless there's a break of at least one full term. This amendment will only apply to years served after it is adopted, and any years served by current members before its adoption will not count towards the 12-year limit.
