This bill permits the holder of a plenary or farm winery license to sell New Jersey Department of Agriculture "Secretary Select" wine at retail to consumers for consumption on or off the licensed premises of the winery and to offer samples for sampling purposes only, provided that no less than 50 percent of the wine sold by the licensee each year has been produced on the licensed premises. To bring public attention to wines produced in this State and promote the State's wine industry, the secretary announced that he would begin selecting certain New Jersey wines to be introduced to consumers as "Secretary Select" wines. The sponsor intends for the bill to further bring public attention to New Jersey produced wine by permitting the State's licensed wineries to sell "Secretary Select" wine to consumers. The sponsor believes this bill will benefit the State's wine industry by providing consumers with additional purchase options when visiting a winery and spreading awareness about the many high-quality, New Jersey-produced wines available for purchase in this State.
