This bill mandates collaboration between the Department of Children's Services and the Department of Disability and Aging (DDA) to ensure children in state custody, or at risk of entering it, who have intellectual or developmental disabilities receive appropriate services. The DDA will offer expertise by developing training for Department of Children's Services staff on identifying and supporting these children, consulting on quality oversight tools for residential service providers, and recommending services for children suspected of having such disabilities. The two departments may formalize this partnership through an interagency agreement. Furthermore, the Department of Children's Services will be required to submit an annual report to legislative committees detailing their progress in implementing these provisions, including the number of children referred for evaluation, the status of oversight tools and training, and care coordination efforts.
