This bill, amending Tennessee Code Annotated Title 37, which deals with the Department of Children's Services (DCS), establishes new rules regarding how the DCS interacts with foster parents and prospective foster parents concerning firearms. Specifically, the DCS is prohibited from asking foster parents about the number or type of firearms or ammunition they own, or requesting them to display or provide access to these items. However, the DCS can still inquire if firearms are present in the home and if they are securely stored, and they can ask to see the storage of any firearms, but they cannot ask a foster parent to open a secured storage compartment. These restrictions do not apply if there is an investigation into abuse or neglect within a foster home.
