Bill Summary

As enacted, generally prohibits the department from requesting information regarding the number or type of firearms or ammunition or identifying information about such firearms or ammunition that a foster parent or prospective foster parent owns or possesses, or requesting a foster parent or prospective foster parent to display or provide access to a firearm or ammunition owned or possessed by the parent. - Amends TCA Title 37.

AI Summary

This bill amends Tennessee law concerning the Department of Children's Services (DCS) and its interactions with foster parents. Specifically, it prohibits the DCS from asking foster parents or prospective foster parents about the number or type of firearms or ammunition they own, or requesting to see or access those firearms. However, the bill does allow the DCS to inquire if firearms are present in the home and if they are securely stored, and to request to see the storage of any firearms, but not to ask the foster parent to open a secured storage compartment. These restrictions do not apply if there is an investigation into abuse or neglect within a foster home.
