The bill outlines exceptions, including if the manipulated media includes a clear disclosure stating it has been altered by artificial intelligence, with specific requirements for how this disclosure must be presented depending on the media type (image, video, or audio). Candidates or political parties harmed by these deepfakes can seek legal action to stop their publication, and entities violating the law can face civil penalties ranging from $1,000 to $10,000, depending on the severity and intent of the violation. The bill also provides exemptions for bona fide news broadcasts, paid advertisements where broadcasters made a good faith effort to verify authenticity, and publications that clearly state the deepfake is not an accurate representation, as well as for satire or parody.
