This bill aims to enhance academic acceleration in Tennessee education by allowing educators licensed to teach eighth-grade math to also teach Algebra I or equivalent courses to eighth graders at no extra cost, and by requiring the state's academic standards committee to include advanced math standards for grades five through seven. Beginning in the 2027-2028 school year, students who score "exceeds expectations" on their seventh-grade TCAP math test will be automatically enrolled in Algebra I or an equivalent course in eighth grade, unless their parents opt them out within 30 days of the school year's start, and successful completion of this eighth-grade course will count towards high school graduation requirements. Furthermore, the bill mandates that high school course grades achieved by students in eighth grade be included in their uniform grading system and that these grades be considered for students in kindergarten through eighth grade coursework.
