This bill allows individuals convicted of driving under the influence (DUI) in Tennessee, who are otherwise eligible for a restricted license, to request and have a court order the use of a transdermal monitoring device instead of being required to only drive vehicles equipped with an ignition interlock device. An ignition interlock device is a breathalyzer connected to a vehicle's ignition that prevents the car from starting if the driver's blood alcohol content is too high. A transdermal monitoring device, on the other hand, is worn by the individual and continuously monitors their alcohol consumption. The bill specifies that the individual must cover all costs associated with the transdermal monitoring device and will not be eligible for financial assistance from the electronic monitoring indigency fund.
