This bill allows certain school employees, who have completed specific training and are designated by the principal, to conduct physical searches of students and searches of vehicles, containers, packages, lockers, or other storage areas used by students or visitors, particularly in the principal's absence. Additionally, it modifies the requirement for school districts, referred to as LEAs (Local Education Agencies), to notify parents and guardians about threats of violence or significantly disruptive behavior; previously, all reported threats required notification, but now LEAs must only notify parents and guardians within 48 hours if the LEA determines the threat to be credible after conducting a threat assessment, and this notification requirement does not apply if the report is solely made to a school resource officer or armed school security officer.
