This bill establishes the West Virginia ALS Care Services Program, recognizing that individuals with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disease, face significant financial and medical challenges and benefit from state support to remain in their homes with family-based care. The program, to be administered by the Department of Human Services, will focus on three key areas: Care Services Coordination and Support to provide education and assistance to individuals with ALS and their caregivers; Assistive Technology, Medical Equipment, and Ramp Reutilization Loan Programs to offer access to essential equipment that enhances safety and independence; and Multidisciplinary ALS Clinics, which consolidate specialized medical services to improve patient outcomes, extend life expectancy, and reduce overall healthcare costs by minimizing the need for repeated specialist visits and hospitalizations.
