This bill allows certain individuals who are currently active members of the State Police Retirement System to transfer their prior service credits from a "Local Fire and Police System," which refers to a retirement system established for local firefighters and police officers, into the State Police Retirement System. This provision specifically applies to individuals who were previously eligible for a vested benefit from a local system, are no longer active members of that local system, and experienced a break in employment between leaving their local service and starting their service with the State Police. To take advantage of this, eligible individuals must request the transfer by December 31, 2026, using a form provided by the State Retirement Agency. The bill is set to take effect on July 1, 2026, and will expire at the end of December 2026.
