This bill increases the number of days a retired municipal employee can work in a calendar year without their pension benefits being interrupted from seventy-five (75) days to ninety (90) days, or its equivalent of six hundred thirty (630) hours, and this change will take effect immediately upon its passage. This provision, found in section 45-21-54 of the General Laws concerning the retirement of municipal employees, clarifies that while pension payments are suspended if this new limit is exceeded, the retired employee does not earn additional pension credit or make further pension contributions for that extra service, with an exception for police officers working private details paid by non-governmental entities and for those serving as elected city or town council members or school committee members.
