This bill appropriates $225,000 from the workforce development fund to the commissioner of employment and economic development for fiscal year 2027 to provide grants for secondary career and technical education programs to offer instruction in meat cutting and butchery, with grants potentially covering equipment, facility renovations, and faculty training, and individual grant recipients may receive up to $75,000 with up to ten percent allocated for faculty training. Priority will be given to applicants collaborating with Minnesota State Colleges and Universities institutions or local industry partners, and the commissioner is required to report on awarded grants, unfulfilled requests, and grant outcomes to legislative committees by January 15, 2028, with a potential follow-up report by November 1, 2028, for any additional grants awarded. The Department of Employment and Economic Development may also enter into an interagency agreement with the Department of Agriculture to administer this program.
