This bill establishes a voluntary "climate literacy seal" for graduating high school students in Minnesota who demonstrate a strong understanding of climate science and its impacts, and who develop "green skills" or "technical green skills," which are abilities and knowledge related to jobs that benefit the environment or contribute to a sustainable economy. To earn this seal, students must meet standard graduation requirements, complete at least two approved courses related to climate literacy, and successfully finish a final experiential learning project focused on local climate change effects, which could involve community projects, internships, or research. Schools that choose to offer the seal must inform students about the requirements, approve final projects (or authorize external providers to do so), and annually report data on participation and project types to the Commissioner of Education, who will then compile a statewide report for legislative committees.
