This bill expands the group of individuals who can request a public information list, which contains voter registration data. Previously, only registered voters in Minnesota could obtain these lists. Now, the national chair of a major political party will also be eligible to request a copy of the public information list, in addition to registered voters. The bill specifies that these lists must be provided within five business days of a complete written or electronic request and payment of reproduction costs, and they must also be available for public inspection at no cost. Importantly, anyone who inspects or acquires a public information list is prohibited from using the information for purposes unrelated to elections, political activities, or law enforcement. This change will take effect the day after the bill is officially enacted.
