This bill establishes a Task Force on Higher Education Governance and Funding, comprised of 13 members including state officials, appointed representatives from various higher education institutions and organizations, and public members with relevant expertise, to examine the State's higher education system, its organization, governance, and funding. The task force is charged with developing recommendations to align with the State's higher education priorities by analyzing institutional structures, state oversight, regulatory requirements, funding mechanisms, and their impact on tuition and student outcomes, as well as assessing how institutions meet workforce needs and the effects of past governance changes, with the goal of identifying best practices for stable and equitable funding and improved governance, and it is appropriated $200,000 for its operational needs, including hiring experts, and will expire 30 days after issuing its final report to the Governor and Legislature within one year of its organization.
