This bill, known as the "Didarul Islam police recruitment act," amends the retirement and social security law to allow members of the New York City Police Pension Fund to receive credit for prior service in certain agencies, including as a New York City school safety agent or supervisor, a New York City corrections officer or supervisor, a New York City traffic enforcement agent or supervisor, or in the New York City police department cadet program. This prior service, if it immediately precedes service in the uniformed force of the New York City Police Department, will be considered as service in the uniformed force for the purpose of determining eligibility for and the amount of benefits from the New York City Police Pension Fund, provided the member pays or transfers all required member contributions plus interest to the fund. The bill also clarifies that if a member transfers or withdraws contributions from the New York City Employees' Retirement System (NYCERS) to the New York City Police Pension Fund, their membership in NYCERS will cease, and they will retain no credited service there.
