This resolution requests the establishment of a Space Economy Working Group, to be convened by the Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, to study and develop a strategic framework for advancing Hawaii's participation in the growing global space economy. The working group will include representatives from key state departments, the University of Hawaii, and other relevant stakeholders, and will examine Hawaii's existing space-related assets, opportunities for economic diversification and job creation, workforce development needs, research and innovation potential, infrastructure requirements, regulatory considerations, and environmental and cultural impacts. The group is also tasked with identifying niche areas where Hawaii can excel, such as Earth observation and small satellite operations, and is required to submit a report with findings and recommendations to the Legislature by early 2027.
