The working group will be composed of representatives from key state departments, the University of Hawaii, the Hawaii Technology Development Corporation, and other relevant stakeholders, including Native Hawaiian organizations and environmental groups. Its mandate is to assess Hawaii's current space-related assets and capabilities, identify opportunities for economic diversification and job creation, develop workforce training programs, explore research and innovation potential, evaluate infrastructure needs, consider regulatory and environmental factors, and recommend strategies for Hawaii to focus on specific niche areas within the space sector. The group is required to submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the Legislature by early 2027.
