This bill, titled the Closing the Gap Grant Program, amends existing Florida law to add a new requirement for project proposals seeking grants. Specifically, it mandates that any project proposal submitted under this grant program must now address racial and ethnic disparities in morbidity (illness) and mortality (death) rates related to sickle cell disease, a genetic blood disorder. This addition expands the existing priority areas that grant proposals can address, which previously included disparities in maternal and infant mortality, cancer, HIV/AIDS, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, immunization rates, and oral health care.
