This bill establishes a sales tax exemption for energy-efficient appliances in Florida, defining an "energy-efficient appliance" as specific lighting fixtures, dehumidifiers, thermostats, ceiling fans, dishwashers, refrigerators, stoves, clothes washers, water heaters, or air conditioners that meet or exceed energy efficiency standards set by the U.S. Department of Energy or the Energy Star Program. This exemption will be in effect annually during the month of October, from the first to the last day, and applies to new appliances costing $1,500 or less per item, intended for personal or home use and not for business or resale. The bill also grants the Department of Revenue the authority to create rules to implement this new tax exemption, which will become effective on July 1, 2014.
