Now, the bill removes the requirement for surgery and allows for an amended certificate to be issued based on a form completed by a licensed healthcare provider, indicating that the person has undergone clinically appropriate treatment for gender transition or has an intersex condition. The bill also allows parents or guardians to apply for an amended birth certificate on behalf of a minor, and clarifies that the amended certificate will not be marked as amended, ensuring privacy. Additionally, it grants New Jersey courts jurisdiction to issue orders for amending birth certificates for residents born in other states or foreign jurisdictions if those places require a court order. The fee for issuing an amended certificate remains $6.00.
