This bill establishes a working group, referred to as "the group," to examine interscholastic athletic competitions, which are sports and events involving students from different schools. The group will consist of representatives from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA), the Massachusetts Secondary School Administrators’ Association, the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents, the Massachusetts Association of School Committees, and two athletic directors from different-sized school districts. The group's responsibilities include analyzing how interscholastic competitions are currently run, evaluating factors like site selection, scheduling, costs, and financial impacts of events held after the regular season, assessing gender equality in these competitions, and reviewing how activities are classified as interscholastic sports. The group is required to submit a final report with its findings and recommendations to the joint committee on education and legislative clerks within six months of its first meeting, which must occur within ninety days of the bill's enactment.
