This bill mandates that various types of health insurance policies and plans in the Commonwealth must provide coverage for physical therapy for patients with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a group of inherited disorders that affect connective tissues, including physical therapy for prevention, ongoing chronic management, and acute treatment. This coverage applies to state employees insured under the group insurance commission, as well as individual and group policies for medical expenses, hospital services, medical services, and health maintenance organizations. Importantly, such physical therapy will be covered when deemed medically necessary by a physician after a thorough evaluation, and coverage cannot be denied simply because the therapy might be considered unproven, experimental, or investigational.
