This bill amends Chapter 140 of the General Laws by replacing the existing Section 57 with a new version that introduces background check requirements for individuals participating in auto auctions. Specifically, any person intending to bid on or purchase vehicles at an auto auction will be required to undergo a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check from the state where their dealer license was issued. This CORI check must be submitted to the auction annually when renewing bidding privileges for anyone with signatory power or bidding access, and the auction is responsible for forwarding any problematic checks to the registry for further review. This new provision aims to enhance consumer protection and professional licensure within the auto auction industry.
