This bill aims to increase transparency for consumers purchasing motor fuel by requiring retail dealers to clearly display all prices for an identical grade of fuel based on the method of payment. Specifically, if a gas station charges different prices per gallon depending on whether a customer pays with cash, credit card, or another method, any signs or advertisements for that fuel must show each price and the corresponding payment method. Furthermore, all prices displayed for a particular grade of fuel must be the same size and presented in a similar way to ensure consumers can easily compare them. This change is being made to Chapter 94 of the Massachusetts General Laws, which deals with consumer protection.
