This bill proposes to amend existing law to provide bonus aid to newly formed regional school districts, which are groups of towns that have joined together to operate a school system. Specifically, it will allow these newly formed regional school districts, established after fiscal year 1993, to receive "regional bonus aid" for the first five years after their creation. This bonus aid is calculated based on "foundation enrollment," which refers to the number of students the district is expected to serve, and the amount decreases each year. In the first year, the bonus aid will be $100 per foundation enrollment, followed by $80, $60, $40, and finally $20 per foundation enrollment in the subsequent four years, respectively. This bonus aid is separate from any other financial assistance a regional school district might receive under this section of the law.
