This bill proposes to amend existing law concerning financial records in small claims court cases. Specifically, it adds a new requirement that if a judge rules in favor of a plaintiff (the person bringing the lawsuit) and orders a defendant (the person being sued) to pay money, the defendant must then provide certain financial information to the court. This information includes their social security number, their most recent four pay stubs (along with their spouse's, if applicable), the three most recent statements from all their bank, credit union, credit card, or other financial accounts (and their spouse's, if applicable), and their most recent tax return. The court also retains the ability to request any other financial documentation it deems necessary. This change aims to ensure defendants have the necessary documentation to satisfy a judgment in small claims court.
