This bill amends Section 19 of Chapter 21A to require licensed hazardous waste site cleanup professionals to notify the City or Town Clerk in writing, via certified mail, within seven days of being notified by a state or federal agency about known contamination at a hazardous waste site. The bill mandates that the City or Town Clerk maintain a public database of these contaminated locations, organized by property address, and makes this database accessible to the public. Failure to comply with these new notification requirements will result in fines, with a $1000 penalty for a first offense, $2500 for subsequent offenses, and potential jail time of up to two and a half years in the house of correction, or both.
