This bill aims to protect water resources in the central Plymouth County water district by amending existing laws. Specifically, it adds a provision to Section 8 of Chapter 371 of the Acts of 1964, stating that water diversions from the district will not be permitted if the Department of Agricultural Resources or the Water Resources Commission believes such diversions would harm the environmental health of connected ponds and rivers. Additionally, Section 9 of the same chapter is amended to mandate that Silver Lake, Monponsett Pond, and Furnace Pond must be managed to ensure continuous flow to their outflowing rivers, including Jones River, Stump Brook, and Herring Brook, unless prevented by drought, in order to maintain water quality and ecosystem health.
