This bill expands the authority of court officers and individuals authorized to act as court officers by granting them police powers in specific situations. Currently, their authority is generally limited to the courthouse itself. This legislation proposes to extend these police powers to include areas adjacent to the court, such as court parking lots, and also when they are attending court proceedings held outside of a traditional courthouse, when escorting jurors for court-related business, when escorting a judicial officer, or when involved in the care, custody, or transport of detainees. This aims to enhance safety and security for court proceedings, whether they occur in person or remotely.
