This bill requires that all members of a hospital's governing body, meaning the individuals responsible for overseeing the hospital's operations and strategic direction, must complete a trustee training program within six months of their appointment, or within nine months of the bill's effective date if they are already serving. This training, which must be at least seven hours long and can be delivered in various formats like in-person, online, or webinars, will cover essential topics such as ethical and fiduciary responsibilities, improving healthcare quality, financial management, hospital organization, and legal compliance. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) will approve training providers and provide a list of them within 30 days of the bill's passage, and hospitals will be responsible for keeping records of their governing body members' completed training.
