This bill amends existing Massachusetts law, specifically Section 23A of Chapter 112, by updating the definitions of "Athletic Trainer" and "Athletic Training." An "Athletic Trainer" is now defined as someone legally licensed to practice athletic training in the Commonwealth, as outlined in Section 23B. "Athletic Training" itself is broadly defined to encompass the application of various methods and procedures for evaluating and treating injuries, as well as preconditioning, conditioning, and reconditioning patients. This includes the use of preventative and supportive devices like splints and braces, physical modalities such as heat, cold, massage, water, and electrical stimulation, and exercise. This practice is to be conducted in collaboration with physicians or dentists licensed in Massachusetts. Furthermore, athletic training includes educating coaches, athletes, parents, medical personnel, and the community on the treatment, care, and prevention of athletic injuries.
