This bill provides for an accidental death benefit to be paid from the State-Boston Retirement Board to Maureen Shaw, the widow of Kenneth James Shaw, a former police officer for the city of Boston who contracted Hepatitis C while performing his duties. The benefit will be a yearly pension equal to seventy-two percent of the deceased officer's regular compensation for his last twelve months of employment, and any cost-of-living increases must be approved by the retirement board before payment. This legislation is intended to promote the public good and will take effect immediately upon its passage.
