This bill, concerning right-of-way violations at intersections, proposes to significantly increase the penalties for such offenses. Specifically, it amends Section 8 of Chapter 89 by replacing the current fine of "thirty-five" dollars with "two hundred" dollars for a standard violation. More importantly, it introduces new penalties for violations that result in harm to another person: a $200 fine and a license suspension of at least 30 days for injury; a $500 fine and a license suspension of at least 90 days for serious bodily injury, which is defined as an injury involving unconsciousness, extreme pain, disfigurement, loss of bodily function, or a substantial risk of death; and a $1,000 fine and a license suspension of at least 180 days for a violation resulting in death. These penalties apply in addition to any other penalties already in place.
