Similarly, if a pharmacist is offered a financial incentive to dispense a therapeutically equivalent drug instead of the one a doctor prescribed, both the pharmacist and the patient must be informed of this arrangement by the pharmacist. This aims to ensure transparency in prescription drug choices, particularly when entities like insurance carriers, third-party administrators, or pharmacy benefits managers (companies that manage prescription drug benefits for health plans) are involved in influencing these decisions.
