This bill aims to restore pension benefits for certain surviving spouses and widows of public service members who remarried before July 1, 2000, and whose pensions were consequently terminated or reduced. Specifically, it amends existing laws (General Laws chapter 32, sections 9, 100, and 101, and subdivision (2)(d) of section 12) to allow these individuals to receive benefits as if their remarriage had not impacted their pension, overriding a previous law (chapter 159 of the acts of 2000, section 498) that may have prevented this. However, the bill clarifies that these changes will only apply from the effective date of this new act and will not provide any retroactive payments.
